For an engagement session, El Matador Beach is a dream location; you think about a Southern California vibe, this SCREAMS it. Christian and Sarai booked an engagement session with me, and we talked about places, which was at the top of Sarai’s list. This beach is so iconic, and you might even spot a celebrity or two. This the season for love, and I am here for all of it!
I am always worried if I am going to be taken seriously, especially by family and friends. I mean, come on you, know you’ve thought about this with one of your friends or family member. They tell you that they do something and you don’t know if they’ll do a good job. Well, this is something I struggle with all the time; I am enneagram 6. I always question everything!
When family and friends reach out to me to capture images for them, especially their engagement session, I GET NERVOUS! (cue sweaty palms) Christian and Sarai have been together for over 6 years; I met them through my husband, who used to work with my husband.
When Christian reached out to me to capture their engagement session, I got so excited. He was trusting me to capture their portraits. I wanted to make sure they had the best experience I could give them.
When I had spoken to Sarai, she had mentioned how she loved El Matador and wanted to have the photos there. I had been to this beach a couple of years prior and remembered to check the tide because it can be high tide during this time of the year. (I made that mistake and wasn’t able to have the photos done there; what a rookie mistake)! Engagement session at El Matador State beach is romantic, gorgeous,
This day was such a gorgeous day! It wasn’t too hot, and it wasn’t too cold; you just needed a light jacket. Christian and Sarai didn’t come to play either; they wore perfect outfits. They gave me creative freedom to capture what I saw fit, and I was all for it!
Clients have expectations coming into a session, especially if they never had portraits done before. Engagement portraits are incredibly important; I feel it sets the tone for their wedding day. You are showing the world you and your fiance becoming one for the first time. I like to make this session fun and all about them; I create an environment that they feel confident.
If you have never had a professional photoshoot, you come into the session; you are a little timid, not knowing what to do. At first, it’s going to be a bit awkward. You aren’t used to having a camera in front of your face for an hour. I get it; that’s why you hired a professional, RIGHT?
You will start having fun within the first 5 minutes because you’ll be laughing and creating a genuine moment between you and your lover. Though I will have poses for you both, I love capturing the two of you just being yourselves! I always tell my clients Pinterest is great, but we don’t want to copy Pinterest; we want to be that pin that everyone wants! I always say I am bringing that Lizzo confidence out of you!
You will leave the session feeling amazing because you already look fantastic. I’m just capturing it with a little sass! I can promise you throughout your session, you’ll see me dance, say “YEEEEESSSSSSSSSS” for more than half of your session. Every photographer says this. I don’t know why, but when that starts to happen, just know MAGIC is being made.
El Matador is a fantastic location to shoot at; please be mindful that there is a little hike to get down and get back up. If you are looking to have your session done here, LET’S DO IT! If you love the sunsets, then plan for your session in Winter YOU’LL GET THE BEST SUNSETS!
